Cystinosis Ireland was deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dr Jerry Schneider. Dr Schneider was a pioneer and friend to the cystinosis community, having dedicated his career to the identification and understanding of this ultra-rare disease. He started his career in the National Institutes of Health (US), and was a founding member and ultimately Professor of Pediatrics at UCSD School of Medicine from 1970-2011. Dr Schneider’s work lead to the development of cysteamine treatment which is used by many of our community.
