Professor Elena Levtchenko, Professor of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven and Head of the Department of Paediatric Nephrology in the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium

Professor Levtchenko was trained in Paediatrics in Brussels, Belgium followed by fellowship in Paediatric Nephrology and PhD studies in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, under the leadership of prof. Leo Monnens. In 2008 Professor Levtchenko accepted a position of Adjunct-Head of the division of Pediatric Nephrology in the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium and starting from 2011 has become the head of this division. She is a full professor of Medicine in the Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven and a group leader of the laboratory of pediatric nephrology in the same University.

Professor Levtchenko’s work, described in over 200 original publications and several book chapters, is mainly focused on unraveling the disease mechanisms and improving clinical care of children with genetic kidney diseases and cystinosis. She is a chair of the ESPN working group on Inherited Renal Disorders, a co-chair of the working group on metabolic and stone-forming of the European Reference Kidney Network, and is a member of the task force for education and webinars.

She is a council member of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association and a co-chair of the professional educational committee.
