My name is Cécile Berends and I am working as Clinical Scientistat the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) in Leiden, the Netherlands.I am also a PhD Candidateat CHDRin the research field of cystinosis, mainly focusing on the wishes and needs of patients. My first first-author paperrecently gotpublished and I’m happy to present the results during the7thAnnual Dublin Cystinosis Workshop 2021.I graduated from Leiden University in 2016 with a Master’s Degree in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences. During my Masters, I did a research project at the Queen’s Medical Research Institute (QMRI) in Edinburgh, with as topic “MicroRNA-122 as potential biomarker for drug-induced liver injury in humans andthe development of zebrafish as a model of drug-induced liver injury”.Here I also discovered my love for Scotland and the beautiful Scottish Highlands. After graduation, I started working as Clinical Trial Coordinator for Sino Medical Sciences Technology (SINOMED), where I was responsible for the coordination of clinical trials in Europe and collaboration with various regional and global parties against project timelines. In my current job at CHDR, I work onseveral clinical trialsin the department of Infectious Diseases, nowadays mainly studies related toCOVID-19. My interests are traveling in Scotland, running and playing tennis.
