Cystinosis Ireland is an All-Ireland charity with a successful track record investing in cutting edge research into cystinosis, an ultra-rare disease.

We are a major funder of cystinosis research globally, having developed strong international networks among researchers, clinicians and patient organisations. We also support those living with cystinosis in Ireland and their families.


The role is Research Manager for Cystinosis Ireland.

The primary responsibility of this role is managing our Research portfolio on a day-to-day basis, working with the Research Sub-Committee,  driving and promoting our research agenda.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing a scientific research portfolio, co-ordinating multiple projects, developing and enhancing our scientific research strategy.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and highly organised, capable of working independently and on their own initiative.

Cystinosis Ireland does not have a physical office, the majority of our work is done working remotely through online meeting and collaboration tools. Face to face meetings are organised as required (covid-19 restrictions permitting).


  • Managing Cystinosis Ireland’s research programme on a day-to-day basis which includes running research calls, peer reviews, public and patient involvement (PPI) and contract management. The role also include reporting, monitoring of Cystinosis Ireland’s jointly-funded projects with international sister organisations and with the HRB through its Joint Funding Scheme.
  • Organising Cystinosis Ireland’s Annual Dublin Scientific Workshop and other research-related events.
  • Developing and growing Cystinosis Ireland’s research programme and global researcher network to enhance the pool of potential projects.


  • A biosciences/biomedical science or other health sciences qualification is desirable.
  • Previous experience in a research management role.
  • Knowledge of the Irish health research environment.
  • An understanding of the rare disease research environment.


  • The Research Manager will report to the Chair of Cystinosis Ireland Research Sub-Committee on all operational responsibilities and also have a reporting line to the Chair of Cystinosis Ireland.


  • This role is a full-time role.
  • Availability to work outside of standard working hours (including evening meetings) will be required from time to time to facilitate the functioning of the Research Sub-Committee and Board of Cystinosis Ireland.
  • The role will include travel to attend local and international meetings and conferences (covid regulations permitting).
