Pang Yuk Cheung completed her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland before obtaining a Master’s degree from the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre. She is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer Hollywood and Prof. Alan Davidson in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology, University of Auckland. The goal of her project is to conduct a preclinical drug study investigating the combination therapy of Cysteamine and Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, to determine whether this treatment will be effective in ameliorating the cystinotic phenotype seen in their newly generated cystinosis rat model. If successful, this therapy has the potential to improve the outcomes and prognosis of cystinotic patients.
