Opportunities

Cystinosis Ireland is one of the main patient organisations in Europe driving research into this rare disease. 



Since its establishment in 2003, Cystinosis Ireland has supported research projects focused on all aspects of this disease to the value of €3.1 million either through direct funding or as a co-funding partner with Ireland’s national health research funding agency, the Health Research Board Cystinosis Ireland funds research in laboratories worldwide through two main schemes, learn more on Cystinosis Seedcorn Funding Scheme and the HRCI/HRB Joint Funding Scheme.

Cystinosis Ireland and the HRB are committed to promoting real engagement of the public and patients in the research that we support.

  • ‘Public’ means everyone in Ireland who has an interest in health and social care as a public service including potential users of services.

  • ‘Patient’ means people who use services such as patients, service users, clients or their carers.

  • ‘Involvement’ means the active involvement between people who use services, carers, the general public and researchers.

The Annual Dublin Cystinosis Workshop is an interactive forum for researchers to share new knowledge, spark new ideas and explore new research approaches aimed at better understanding and treating the ultra-rare disease of Cystinosis.
